Event Description

Register Now! The Alabama Dance Council and The Dance Foundation are proud to partner in conversation, exploration, and reflection with master dance artists in a series of workshops, supported in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. This FREE workshop series kicks off on January 25 during the Alabama Dance Festival with Margi Cole! Ms. Cole will lead:

Teaching dance in a rapidly changing world
11:00am - 12:30pm
Teachers of dance, let’s get together and have a meaningful dialogue about teaching. There is so much to be learned from being together and talking about our work. We so rarely have the luxury of doing just that. How are you managing what is happening in the world in your classes? How are you shifting the language you use and material you offer to your students? How has the pace and way with which you are engaging students in concepts and your expectations related to their progress evolved? Let’s share our ideas, successes and challenges in an informal, in person exchange led by Margi Cole.

What does Entrepreneurship mean for Artists?
1:30pm - 3:00pm
Margi Cole leads a discussion on recognizing, defining and refining entrepreneurship in the arts and the nonprofit sector. Do artists receive recognition for being entrepreneurial and why or why not? Discussion will include the development of a nonprofit and other business models from a business perspective, while managing the artistic innovation as individuals or organizations. How do you recognize opportunities, find funding and have artistic vision? How can you make it all work or at least give it a try?

FREE with online registration
