Southern Danceworks brings an exciting array of artists to the Harrison Theatre at Samford University on May 22, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. and May 23 at 2:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by Samford University, the program will feature two world premieres. "Quips and Cranks" is a collaborative work created by Teri Weksler and musicians/composers Karen Bentley Pollick (violin/viola) and John Scalici (percussion). The work blends viola, violin, and a variety of percussion instruments along with the use of electronics in a dynamic score performed live onstage with the dancers. The second world premiere will feature a new work commissioned by Southern Danceworks from guest choreographer Germaul Barnes, a former principle dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and a "Bessie" New York Dance and Performance Award winner. Mr. Barnes will be in residence from April 13 – 24 to set the new work on the company, and will also teach master classes and a choreography workshop.
Tickets are available at 205-726-2853 for $20 adults, $15 seniors, and $10 students or at https://www.ticketreturn.com/prod2/Team.asp?SponsorID=2290.
