Dr. Johnson has 30 years experience as an arts administrator, educator, and performer. Since 2002, she has been serving as the Executive Director of the Alabama Dance Council in Birmingham, where she coordinates the annual Alabama Dance Festival and other artist services for the Alabama dance community. She has increased participation in the Alabama Dance Festival from 175 to 800, implemented a residency program by nationally renowned dance companies, developed showcases for Alabama dance companies, diversified the curriculum to include tap, jazz, world dance, and arts education workshops for pre-professional and professional dancers, and instituted an evaluation process. From 1978 - 2002, Dr. Johnson served as Fine Arts Director at Wallace Community College Selma. In 1992, she initiated the college's artist residency program and concert series, WCCSpresents, and was selected in 1998 as a host coordinator for three consecutive years of one of eight national sites for Chamber Music America’s Chamber Music Rural Residencies Program. Dr. Johnson is the recipient of a 2004 Artist Fellowship in Arts Administration from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. She is a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Samford University (BM), and the University of Alabama (MM, DMA) with degrees in piano performance.
