All performed to Balanchine’s brilliant specifications; dazzling choreography, opulent costumes, and extravagant sets make this production unlike any other. The addition of a community cast of children from the area make this performance truly magical. Join us December 11-20 at the Samford Wright Center for this joyous spectacle. In addition to the Birmingham performances, Alabama Ballet will also tour to Anniston, AL. Balanchine’s Nutcracker™ is more than a performance; it is a holiday tradition you and your family do not want to miss! One of Spain’s great literary works jumps from the page to the stage February 26-28 with Alabama Ballet’s production of Don Quixote. A story of love, comedy, and justice, this full length ballet is bursting with passion and humor. With exuberant dancing and narrative detail, spectacular costumes and scenery, this classic will captivate families and all who love classical ballet. History has never been so beautiful and tantalizing! The lavish sets and extravagant costumes reflect a 17th century Spanish flare true to the story of Don Quixote. This three-act ballet travels through a Spanish village, a gypsy camp, a tavern and a wedding celebration to bring the audience on a search for love and honor.Rooster, the smash hit by famed British Choreographer Christopher Bruce, comes to Alabama for the first time. Set to eight hits by The Rolling Stones, including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Paint it Black,” and “Ruby Tuesday,” Rooster has been performed to overwhelming popular and critical acclaim worldwide. When asked what he thought of Rooster after the London premiere performance, the Stone’s front man Mick Jagger responded, “I love it! It was great. I was looking at them and thinking ‘that’s a good move, I must nick that.’” Rounding out the evening will be George Balanchine’s classic Serenade set to the sweeping score by Tchaikovsky. Serenade, now considered an acknowledged 20th-century classic, was Balanchine’s first piece for his new American dancers. An incorporation of rehearsal events and a hint of the hardships and almost religious exaltation of a career in ballet, Serenade’s beauty is in its pure-dance patterns that both introduce new motifs and repeat with significant variations. No design is fixed while everything is in flux. This is one evening of ballet that truly presents something for everyone and is the perfect way to close a delightful season!Season & Single tickets on sale now.
