Dance Theatre of Huntsville Wins Big At NYCDA!

Full of adrenaline and excitement, Dance Theatre of Huntsville’s dancers danced their way to a high – scoring weekend in Atlanta, Georgia on April 16th – 18th at the New York City Dance Alliance’s Regional Competition.

This is the first time that Dance Theatre of Huntsville has entered into a dance competition.

It was a pleasant surprise to hear Dance Theatre of Huntsville’s name called repeatedly among some of the best dancers in the region. New York City Dance Alliance hosts several conventions and workshops throughout the nation. They set the standard of excellence in the dance. Their goal is to inspire dancers to be the best that they can be.

Dance Theatre of Huntsville competed in the mini, junior and senior divisions. The mini division won a platinum award and was runner – up for the Critic’s Choice Award for tap. The Critic’s Choice Award, given by the judges after evaluating all the 269 dances performed, notes that this dance was recognized as one of the best. The juniors won a high gold for jazz, and the seniors won a high gold for Contemporary.

Erykah Jenkins, mini solo dancer in the contemporary division, won a platinum award, the Highest Scoring Dancer in the mini division, and a runner – up scholarship to the national competition in New York City. Amiya Fuqua also won a national runner – up scholarship to compete in New York. Kathleen Arthur won a high gold for her contemporary solo to “Ïn My Dreams”.

It is the goal of Dance Theatre of Huntsville to strive for excellence in the dance world. Director Monique Ryan continues to study so that she can bring the best of dance back to her students and her community. The school offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, body conditioning, theatrical dance, liturgical, West African, Latin dance, and much more.
