Position Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Alabama invites applications for an instructor of dance with the appointment beginning August 16, 2024.
Detailed Position Information
This instructor position will primarily teach studio dance techniques in the dance and musical theatre programs including various levels (undergraduate and graduate) of jazz and musical theatre, along with one or more of the following: dance appreciation, anatomy/kinesiology, pedagogy, dance history, Screendance, or other dance-related studio or academic classes within expertise. The successful candidate will participate in recruitment, mentoring of students, and service to the department. Opportunities may arise for choreography of Department sponsored musicals and dance concerts and coaching students’ creative and performance works.
Minimum Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance or related field. Evidence of teaching excellence in dance technique and dance related courses. Candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to broad pedagogical approaches, and a record of work using wide-ranging and collaborative perspectives. Strong communication and organizational skills are imperative.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong musical theatre or commercial dance background and professional experience.
