The Shelton State Fine Arts Department is pleased to announce that the dance division will present the Shelton State Dance Concert on Thursday, April 25th at 7:30pm in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  The show will feature student and faculty choreography and performance, along with additional work by the dance program's Spring 2013 guest artist, Emily Tschiffely.  This is a general seating show with free admission.

In this inaugural performance there will be a multitude of dance genres featured.  Ballet, jazz, modern, and a student-produced dance for the camera will be shown.  Student work from academic classes include a waltz duet and two inventive solos highlighting studies in academic choreographic development.  Faculty member Taryn Brown will also perform in a contemporary music visualization piece set to Variations on a Theme by Mozart by Fernando Sor.  Tschiffely, a Mississippi resident worked with students in the classroom environment as both a teacher and choreographer from April 9-11th.  Her emphasis on structured improvisation will be highlighted with students from the dance workshop class.  Dance workshop students are the main driving force behind the show in that they will perform in several pieces.  The class was developed as a bridge from classroom content into real-world production skills.

The Shelton State Dance Concert will feature a lobby display of student work for the audience to browse before and after the performance.  This family friendly show promises to educate and entertain through its exploration of movement as an artistic medium.
