Alabama Ballet closes its diverse season with three works by two giants of twentieth century choreography – Antony Tudor’s Lilac Garden, Agnes de Mille’s The Other and Three Virgins and a Devil. Added to the mix will be an original piece by Alabama Ballet’s own Roger Van Fleteren. Alabama Ballet is proud to be the recipient of the American Masterpieces grant given by the National Endowment on the Arts. Never before seen in Alabama, these pieces were chosen because of Artistic Director Tracey Alvey’s vision for the company to add accessible works to the repertory that will provide new challenges for the dancers and create a bridge for Southern dance audiences to transition from the classical story ballet to more abstract ballets. Associate Artistic Director Roger Van Fleteren’s long association with American Ballet Theatre and his work there with both Agnes de Mille and Antony Tudor are additional reasons for the selection of these works. These performances will be held at the Alys Stephens Center.
