Alabama Youth Ballet Theatre’s “Snow White and more…” will feature original world premiere choreography by David Herriott with assistance from Keren Gibb Hilliard. The fairy tale ballet follows the storyline made famous by Disney. “The one major change,” Herriott states, “is that we have Woodland Fairies instead of many small animals in the Forest.” The other characters will be familiar to the Grimm’s and Disney versions. The music will be a mix of Erik Satie compositions and original Irish music. The performances will take place at the VBC Playhouse April 9-11.Snow White will be first on the program and will last approximately one hour. During intermission Prince and Princesses of all ages, dressed in their fairy tale finest, are invited to join in a Royal Procession. Afterwards, there will be a few more short original works performed by the AYBT company members. These will also be in Panoply’s Choreography Competition. David Herriott has choreographed Sculpture Garden which was inspired by Rodin sculptures. It features three couples to music from Picture at an Exhibition by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Brad Howard who has come back from the New York dance scene has entitled his work “Lighter Shades of Grey”. This contemporary modern piece explores the grey areas in relationships between people. Mr. Howard has used Phillip Glass music for this piece. Cynthia Quintela will also choreograph a new jazz work for AYBT.AYBT’s traditional fairy tale ballet “Snow White” has the “happily ever after” ending which is fun for every member of the family, with family friendly ticket prices.
