Alabama State University BFA Dance Department Presents BFA Dance Senior Capstones: “Ignition of the Ember: The Smoke and The Flame”
Montgomery, AL – The Alabama State University Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Dance Program is thrilled to announce an exciting two-part performance series titled Ignition of the Ember: The Smoke and The Flame. This production serves as the senior capstone showcase, featuring 15 talented graduating seniors who have each researched a topic of their choice and created a compelling 15–20-minute dance piece based on their findings. Additionally, students collaborated with renowned choreographers to enhance their industry connections and practical experience.
The capstone performances will be held over two weekends in March 2025, each offering a unique and dynamic experience.

The Flame (A)
Dates: March 13-14, 2025

Seniors: Jonathan Ambrose, Coby Bennet, Malik Booker, Terriah Brookshire, Isyss Dennis, Amari Doss, Daryn Hill, and Zuri Stokes
Overview: This showcase will ignite the stage, symbolizing the passion, intensity, and transformative power of fire. Through a captivating blend of modern, contemporary, and traditional dance forms, The Flame will explore themes of personal transformation, resilience, and the drive to overcome adversity. Audiences can expect to be inspired by the emotional depth of the performance.
The Smoke (B)

Seniors: Aarin Carver, Nalani Hogue, Carsyn Jones, Taylor Jones, Kaiya King, Randall McKinney, and Jordan Lee
Overview: Continuing the journey, The Smoke offers a reflective look at the aftermath of fire—the lingering effects that remain once the flames have faded. This performance delves into themes of memory and the subtle traces of the past, examining the complexities of change, loss, and renewal through innovative choreography and evocative dance.
Both performances will feature original works choreographed by the BFA Dance class of 2025, guided by ASU faculty members. Each dancer will also showcase a solo piece demonstrating their technical growth. With stunning visuals, inventive choreography, and compelling storytelling, Ignition of the Ember promises to be a deeply moving and thought-provoking experience for all attendees.
