The 23rd annual "JAZZ ON TAP" (the metro Atlanta Jazz and Tap Dance Festival) will showcase 800 dancers in 4 performances Friday, March 5 at 7:30pm, Saturday, March 6 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm and Sunday, March 7 at 2:00pm at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theatre at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, Georgia. Master teachers from throughout the US will offer workshop classes to the participants and the public. “It’s hard to believe the festival began 22 years ago with 8 dance companies and through the support and enthusiasm of dancers and audiences alike have grown to one of the nation’s largest annual dance festivals”, remarks Marcus R. Alford, Artistic Director and Founder of "JAZZ ON TAP". This year's festival presents 13 companies from Georgia and the metro Atlanta area and 12 companies from Arkansas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, New York and Alabama. The dance workshop, which is open to the public, will feature classes in jazz, tap, lyrical, African, contemporary and hip hop and will be offered on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7 in conjunction with the festival. Master class faculty will include Mama Yeye, Atlanta, GA, Tom Alexander, Lorton, VA, Jay Fagan, Chicago, IL, Johnette Rutledge, Minneapolis, MN, Dustin Phillips, Detroit, MI, and festival Artistic Director, Marcus R. Alford. Classes cost $17 each. Performance ticket prices are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and children. All events will be held at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theatre and Ballrooms, Southern Polytechnic State University, 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, Georgia.
