About Mr. Kalivas….
Peter G. Kalivas is the Artistic Director of The PGK Project, an eighteen year critically acclaimed contemporary dance company showcasing his award winning choreography and that of other entertaining, inventive choreographers.  Based in San Diego, California the company features a beautiful and diverse group of dancers in innovative, accessible performances and educational programming locally, nationally and internationally.
Mr. Kalivas trained on full scholarship at Bennington College (Architecture and Music) and The University of the Arts (Dance and Music) with additional training at The Pennsylvania and Joffrey Ballet Schools (scholarship) and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre School. A Fulbright Scholar at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, S. Korea, formerly a Distinguished Dean’s Fellow at The University of California Riverside Department of Dance, he remains a Senior Cultural Envoy to The US State Department of Education and Culture in Washington DC where he is invited to speak about dance expression and society, dance culture and identity and share his extensive teaching, performance and choreographic history spanning more than twenty years.  He is the dance lecturer for The La Jolla Music Society and a Guggenheim nominee in dance audience development.
Mr. Kalivas was an original member of Sean Curran Company (1997-2003) and soloist of The Pearl Lang Dance Theatre, among others in New York, soloist with The Iwanson Dance Company and The Bavarian State Opera Ballet in Munich, Germany and has worked with both Judith Jamison (Artistic Director of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre) and Donald Byrd (“The Color Purple” on Broadway, Donald Byrd/The Group, Spectrum Dance Theatre) and co-choreographed “Kilt” Off-Broadway starring Tovah Feldshuh.
Locally he was a member of Malashock Dance & Company and The San Diego Ballet and has performed in projects for Jean Isaacs in Mexico and Switzer-land, was a soloist, assistant to the choreographer and associate choreographer for several world premiere productions at The San Diego Opera, The Move-ment Director for The Young Singers Summer Intensive at The San Diego Opera, Artist in Residence at California State University San Marcos, frequent master teacher at UCSD, SDSU, The La Jolla Playhouse, Mesa, Grossmont and Southwestern Colleges.  He is currently creating a new contemporary ballet work for the City Ballet of San Diego to premiere late April 2011 and commissioned to create a new work “In the Beginning” for ODC/San Francisco as part of The Innerstate Dance Project that will premiere April 28th at The Old Town Temecula Community Theater in Temecula, California.
