Corazon Flamenco, a professional Flamenco troupe based in Birmingham announces it’s upcoming presentation of El Amor Brujo “Love, the Magician” on Saturday September 26th at 8PM and Sunday the 27th at 2PM at the Levite Jewish Community Center located at 3960 Montclair Road. Corazon Flamenco was founded in 2006 by Irene Rimer as a Spanish Dance Arts Company based in Birmingham, Alabama, with the mission of the teaching and promoting Flamenco as a living art form, presenting arts education lectures and programs, promote cultural understanding, and to present quality performances throughout the city of Birmingham and its surroundings. El Amor Brujo (Love, the Magician) is a piece of music composed by Manuel de Falla and transformed into a ballet distinctively Andalusian in character. It tells the story of a gypsy girl (Candela) who is tormented by the ghost of her faithless former husband (Jose) until her new suitor (Carmelo) enlists a beautiful friend to entice it away. Every one in the story evokes a diverse mood that is seamlessly integrated into a moving tapestry of enthralling but restrained human feeling. A witch and gypsies sing and recite of deceptions and love, and at the end two lovers (Candela and Carmelo) emerge from a night of sorcery to face a new life happily together. All pieces have been choreographed and integrated with acting, singing, and live music based on the original story by Irene Rimer, who will perform the role of Candela. Corazon Flamenco performers include Jamorris Rivers as Carmelo, Carlos Lencina as Jose, Janet Rooney as the witch, Victoria Langdon as Carmelo’s sister, Julia Quijano as Lucia on Saturday’s show, Katherine Harper as Lucia on Sunday’s show, Antonio de Sevilla as singer, and guitarist Tony Arnold.
