Artistic Director, Linze McRae, has taken inspiration from the original Petipa choreography and story from E.T.A Hoffman by adding a Russian flare and an an interesting twist on the origins and culture of the Nutcracker tradition including the addition of Baba Yaga, the infamous Russian fairy tale villain. The story and adaptation was nominated as one of the top 50 most original Nutcrackers in the nation for the 2011 Goldstar Nutcracker award and performed to a sold out audience in New York City that same year The Old World Nutcracker debuts in Gadsden November 28th, and features a large youth community cast and the principal soloists and corps de ballet of the Downtown Dance Conservatory.
