Bridge – Katie Gonzalez
The word bridge is defined as “something that is intended to reconcile or form a connection between two things.” Bridges are literal connections between two points, as well as metaphorical connections between ideas. For this project, Katie will explore the idea of connections through the interactive installation of a bridge created out of string. Katie will be hosting community Natural Dye Workshops to dye the string for the installation.
When: October 10, 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
Where: Green space next to East Lake Performing Arts Center, 7600 block on 1st Avenue North.

The Dream Hive – Julianna Richey
The Dream Hive is a dreamcatcher-making workshop, from which all the dreamcatchers made by participants will be connected on a frame to form a tent/dome structure. Afterwards, participants will be invited to write and hang "dreams" or hopes and intentions they have for Birmingham and the community from the inside of the structure.
When: October 10, 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
Where: Green space next to East Lake Performing Arts Center, 7600 block on 1st Avenue North.

Appalachian Crankie Installation & Workshop – Doug Baulos, Dariana Dervis, Chiharu Roach, Jonathan Woolley
Drawing on the traditions of Southern Appalachian Dance, Music and Art, these artists are creating a series of Crankie oriented installation objects culminating in a viewing and performance. Created objects include projections, crankies, drawing and terrarium sculptures that allow for dancers and musicians to activate the space and bring multifaceted meanings and associations to the room.
Workshop: A crankie is a panoramic scene that is rolled up and then hand cranked so that it scrolls across a viewing screen. People are invited to create their own crankie inspired by the Appalcahian themes the artists have created or by creating a personal panoramic story.
When: October 10, 10:00 am-2:00 pm (workshop), 5:00-9:00 pm (viewing) & 7:00-10:00 pm (performance).
Where: East Lake Performing Arts Center, Gallery 4, 7600 block on 1st Avenue North.

Hive – Elaine Farley Kinnaird
Elaine Farley will be making and presenting a site-specific art installation made out of spray insulation foam and used tea bags.
When: Artist talk/opening on October 10, 5:30 pm. Viewing available October 5-31.
Where: East Lake Performing Arts Center, Gallery 4, 7600 block on 1st Avenue North.
