War Horse (Live Puppet Demonstration)
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Based on the popular children’s novel set before and during World War I, War Horse is a story about loyalty and friendship between a young boy and his beloved horse, Joey.

The story has been turned into a Broadway musical which won FIVE 2011 Tony Awards®. In this live puppet demonstration, young audiences will be amazed to see how the actual 7’ foot-tall puppet works. The live demonstration also includes an explanation of how the three puppeteers who bring Joey to life work together; each is responsible for a technical task and emotional indicator that are instrumental to the art of puppetry and philosophy of Handspring Puppet Company. The presentation is made possible by Broadway in Birmingham and is recommended for students ages 10 and older. Teacher Lesson Guides are available.
