SATURDAY: Connection, Culture, Coming of Age featuring Sunni Patterson is a community engagement workshop guided by the themes of the stage work Raw Fruit, by KM Dance Project. Through song, poetry and embodied storytelling, we will explore what it means to look back and heal the inner child in order to forge new paths toward spiritual rebirth. Raw Fruit, a multidisciplinary work is a collection of stories that reveal the essence of ancestral values which have been woven into the cultural fabric of Black folks’ lives. It is steeped in New Orleans culture and layered with visceral movement created from the female lens of the African American experience in the south. Join Sunni Patterson and the Alabama Dance Council this Saturday, Jan. 13, 7pm at The Greenhouse in Ensley, then see Raw Fruit at the Alys Stephens Center on Saturday, January 20th, at 8pm.
