LOCAL DANCERS HOST LEGENDARY MIDDLE EASTERN MUSICIANSBIRMINGHAM, AL, Devyani Dance Company, the world-renowned belly dance troupe that calls Irondale home, is bringing one of the most famed Middle Eastern music groups to Birmingham on April 17 for workshops and a gala. Helm, who was recently voted Favorite Musicians of the Year by Zaghareet! Magazine, will share their secrets for making music the Middle Eastern way – with drums and also with finger cymbals.Helm (www.helmmusic.com), based in California, teaches workshops at various locations around the world on a regular basis. Their intent is to introduce people to Middle Eastern rhythms and enable them to express themselves through percussion instruments and dance, focusing on classic drums and ornate finger cymbils, or zils. Be prepared - not only will the music move you, the physical beauty of these instruments is a sight to behold!All workshops will take place at Devyani Dance Studio on April 17, 2010. The drumming workshop is scheduled for 9am to 12pm and costs $50; those who are interested can register online at http://helmdrumming.eventbrite.com.
