With two all-new works and a mix of intriguing artistic collaborations, AROVA, a contemporary dance group, will meld live music, dance and visual-art into a dynamic evening of ballet. Set to create a new kind of dance venture, AROVA will combine forces with local musicians ACT OF CONGRESS and professional visual artists Tres Taylor, Thomas Andrew and Athlone Clarke to produce a multi-media dance event and art show at the Virginia Samford Theatre. The Company’s upcoming performance of "Between the Lines" offers an extravagance for the senses as a diverse array of artists perform side-by-side.The highlight of the evening will be the Birmingham debut of "Goldberg Variations" by international choreographer Kennet Oberly, formerly of Columbus Dance Theatre in Ohio. In this eye-catching display of contemporary ballet and visual art, each artist plays the role of the muse -- inspiring and shaping the action occurring on-stage. A 20ft. x 6ft. canvas will be painted live as the dancers navigate the complexities of the Bach score. A new installation by a different artist will be created each night. Each performance is a unique and spontaneous "act of creation," explains Oberly. "Goldberg Variations," an engaging distillation of the creative process, begs the enticing question -- What is the origin of creativity - man or something more divine?March 6 & 7 at 7:30 pmMarch 8 at 2:30 pmTickets are $13 - $25, and may be purchased at www.virginiasamfordtheatre.org.
