World-renowned for great artistry and innovation, Black Grace masterfully blends body percussion and chanting of Pacific Island indigenous dances with contemporary dance. Founded in 1995 as an all-male group of dancers of Pacific Island, Maori and New Zealand heritage, the company is led by the charismatic artistic director and gifted choreographer of Samoan heritage, Neil Ieremia. Today, this powerhouse ensemble of seven men and three women has changed the face of contemporary dance in New Zealand and received phenomenal worldwide acclaim for socially inspired dances that are fiercely athletic, spiritual and rich in storytelling traditions, including Minoi, Pati Pati, Mother Mother and Gathering Clouds.
