Dance the Dream Birmingham brings the city together to celebrate and live the values and goals of the “I Have a Dream” speech. The event is part of the worldwide Dance the Dream tribute, hosted by over 30 cities, including London, Paris, Prague, New York, Beirut, Kabul, Jerusalem, Singapore, Mumbai, Dublin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, and Seattle.

  Dance the Dream Birmingham is spearheaded by the Alabama Dance Council in partnership with the Office of the Mayor, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham, Birmingham Times, BJTA MAX, WVTM-TV (NBC, Channel 13), and Summit Media. It is directed by Winston Strickland, Artistic Director of M.A.D. Skillz Dance Company, and produced by Richard Karz, producer of the PBS documentary special, Legacy: Being Black in America (aka, Legacy: Black & White in America).

Open Casting Call for Dancers: April 15 or April 22

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Production date: May 14, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, Kelly Ingram Park
Two songs will be performed. Dancers will learn excerpts from each song at the audition. Choreographers who would like to contribute additional choreography will be considered at the audition in an improvisational type session. Mr. Strickland prefers that there not be set choreography brought to the audition.

Must attend at least three rehearsals! Practice video will be available online. Production week rehearsals TBA. Performance and filming will take place in Kelly Ingram Park.
