The Montgomery Ballet is pleased to present its 34th annual Performance on the Green July 17 & 18 at 8 PM at the Blount Cultural Park under the stars, lakeside next to the Museum of Fine Arts. The Montgomery Ballet’s Performance on the Green is a FREE event, named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society. This popular event is one of Montgomery’s cultural highlights of the summer. The performances will show the diversity of the Montgomery Ballet and its commitment to present dance in Alabama at the highest level. With the participation of the largest cast of professionals than ever before, who have made Montgomery Ballet their home, the Capital’s official dance company, will present selections of classical and contemporary works for the Tête-A-Tête, a charming classical work by Elie Lazar, the company artistic director, had its first run in Andalusia last month and will have its Montgomery Premier at Performance on the Green. This ballet will introduce the company’s new principal couple Jennifer Deark and Dana Lanz-Ross. Both dancers, known for their charisma and beautiful classical training, command the stage with personality. The exciting Pas de Slave from the ballet, Le Corsair, will feature Molly Wagner and Joseph Villalobos in what is recognized as a master work from the Russian repertoire by Marius Petipa. To change the mood to something more relaxing and run, the company will present its current hit Surrender 2 Love, a contemporary dance work to the rhythmical and passionate Nuevo flamenco- style music. The program will conclude with David Lichine’s master work, Graduation Ball, set to Strauss waltzes, polkas, and marches. This charming work, a ballet about school girls and visiting cadets from a neighboring military On Saturday, July 18 at 8 PM the Montgomery Ballet will showcase the students who came to study at the International Summer Intensive program including students from Italy, France, and Israel and the new apprentices selected for the ballet Company. The students will perform in a work by Elie Lazar, A Night in the Tropics, as well as contemporary works set specially for the evening’s performance. Other highlights of the evening will include two pyrotechnically challenging pas de deux, Diana and Acteon featuring Laura Villalobos and Paul Gilliam as the principal couple, and Flames of Paris featuring new company members Nicole Pedilla and Dana Lanz-Ross. An encore performance of Graduation Ball will conclude this exciting evening of dance under the stars. Prior to the Friday evening performance, at 7:00pm, the ballet will host its annual fund raiser, Picnic on the Green, an elegant, catered gourmet supper attended by hundreds each year, benefiting the Montgomery Ballet Company and School.
